At Shafer, we value all different abilities, and students have an opportunity to be a part of our best buddies program. Best Buddies is a program dedicated to establishing a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This program empowers the individuals by helping them form meaningful friendships with their peers, secure successful jobs, live independently, improve public speaking, self-advocacy and communication skills, and feel valued by society. Students will be able to come into the CDC classroom and work one on one with our students with various abilities. This environment helps create a place of belonging, comfort, and fun for students with and without disabilities and strives to eliminate social isolation.
