The Shafer Football Team is open to all 7^th and 8^th grade students.

Coach Overton is a lifelong resident of Gallatin. He is a 2007 graduate of Gallatin High School where he lettered in three sports. He has played football at the semi-professional and professional levels. He is a 2014 graduate of Tennessee State University with a major in Exercise Science and a 2018 graduate of Union University with a Master of Arts in Education degree. Coach Overton spent 6 years coaching football at Gallatin High School before coming to Shafer. He was voted by his fellow Sumner Co. Middle School Head Coaches as the 2022 Sumner Co. Coach of the Year.
